About us
The Sociedad de la Vihuela is a national cultural association founded on 25 September 2004 and registered in the Registro Nacional de Asociaciones, number 584.715. The aims of the association are to promote and divulge knowledge and study of historical plucked stringed instruments of all kinds: vihuela, lute, theorbo, renaissance & baroque guitars, classical/romantic guitar, etc.
These aims are achieved through the organisation of concerts, courses, meetings, and conferences as well as through specialist publications.
The Society has over 200 members, comprising performers, researchers, and instrument builders related to the vihuela and other historical stringed instruments. Important cultural institutions are also members of the Society, both in Spain and the rest of the world. These include musical documentation centres, libraries, conservatoriums, musical instrument museums, etc.
