PASCALE BOQUET

Professor of lute and improvisation at the Conservatoire de Tours (France). A member of varios groups such as Doulce Mémoire and Witches. For several years she has been president of the Societé Française de Luth. She has published numerous books of music for the lute, renaissance guitar and instrumental ensembles with her own transcriptions, including a method for renaissance lute and a treatise on basso continuo and accompaniment with renaissance lute.


Improvisation in Renaissance music

  • Improvisation course for all early instruments (standard pitch: a = 440).
  • Schedule: 4 hours in the afternoon of each day
  • Maximum number of students: 12. All levels accepted
  • Price: 60 euros per person

Content of the course:

  • Improvisation on ground basses from the 16th century and early 17th: Passamezo, Romanesca, Españoleta, Gamba, Folía, Chacona, Conde Claros, Canarios and others; as well as the basses of English melodies ballad tunes: Fortune my foe, Go from my window, Woodicock, Woods so wild etc.
  • Memorisation of the basses and melodies, embellishment exercises, variations, and improvisation on some of the recurrent themes of the Renaissance
