ARIEL ABRAMOVICH
Teacher in the Early Music courses in Prachatice (Czech Republic) and Bremer Lautenakadediem (Bremen, Germany), he also gives specialist workshops and classes in conservatories throughout South America. He is a founding member of Cortesano (1998) together with José Hernández Pastor, with whom he recorded the first CD devoted entirely to the music of the Valladolid vihuelist Estevan Daça – published by Arcana in 2002. His recent project realised in 2009 and devoted to the vihuelist from Salamanca, Diego Pisador, was published on the German label Carpe Diem. He performs various chamber repertories with tenor John Potter and with lutenists Eugène Ferré, Evangelina Mascardi and Lee Santana among others. He is currently working on other recording projects concerning  renaissance music.

“Cantar sobre las cuerdas”: 16th-Century Music for Plucked Strings

Course content:

  • Tablature: overview and special features of this notation system.
  • Repertorio: Fantasías (or ricercare), dances, and inabulations (adaptations of vocal music). Historical contextualisation of the repertory studied. Counterpoint, polyphony and intertextuality.
  • The polyphonic language in the reality of the plucked string. General rules for basic analysis of the repertory.
  • Performance technique. Plucking technique. Introduction to improvisation. Diminutions, embellishments, improvised counterpoint
